EDDY MARTIN CUBA REVOLUTIONARY BASEBALL

EDDY MARTIN CUBA REVOLUTIONARY BASEBALL

EDDY MARTIN CUBA REVOLUTIONARY BASEBALL

This extraordinary Cuban Revolutionary-era presentation baseball, likely dating to circa 1962–1963, was presented from Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, Che Guevara, and José Manresa to renowned Cuban sports broadcaster Eddy Martín during the formative years of Castro's Cuba. Bearing Fidel Castro's revolutionary inscription, "Para los compatriotas que siempre defienden nuestra Revolución con afecto" ("For the compatriots who always defend our Revolution with affection"), the baseball reflects the ideological spirit of the early revolutionary period. Historical evidence places Eddy Martín alongside Fidel Castro at the inauguration of Cuba's first revolutionary national baseball championships in Havana, where Fidel famously proclaimed that baseball had become "more national," symbolizing its transformation into an instrument of revolutionary identity. Combining the leadership of the Cuban Revolution with the nation's most cherished sport, this baseball survives as a museum-grade artifact of exceptional rarity and historical significance, documenting the intersection of politics, culture, and baseball during one of the defining moments of twentieth-century Cuban history.

FIDEL CASTRO APPOINTMENT OF RAUL CASTRO

EDDY MARTIN CUBA REVOLUTIONARY BASEBALL

EDDY MARTIN CUBA REVOLUTIONARY BASEBALL

This original autograph manuscript order, wholly handwritten and signed by Fidel Castro in the Sierra Maestra and dated 28 February 1958, promotes Captain Raúl Castro Ruz to the rank of Comandante and appoints him commander of Column 6 "Frank País." The order placed under Raúl's authority the rebel forces operating in the mountainous region extending from Mayarí to Baracoa, establishing the leadership of what would become the Second Eastern Front, one of the most important military commands of the Cuban Revolution. Beyond the promotion itself, the manuscript delegates significant military and administrative powers, illustrating the rapid institutional development of the Rebel Army during the final phase of the conflict. Particularly noteworthy is the manuscript's date of 28 February 1958, differing from the 27 February 1958 date traditionally cited in the published historical record, making it an important primary-source witness to a pivotal moment in modern Cuban history.

CHE GUEVARA LETTER

EDDY MARTIN CUBA REVOLUTIONARY BASEBALL

CUBA NATIONAL ANTHEM MANUSCRIPT

Written in the Escambray Mountains on 1 November 1958, this original handwritten letter by Ernesto "Che" Guevara, addressed to a fellow revolutionary associate, offers a rare firsthand glimpse into the internal challenges facing the Cuban Revolution during its final phase. Rather than discussing battlefield tactics, Che emphasizes the importance of preserving agreements, maintaining discipline, and preventing divisions among the anti-Batista forces operating in Las Villas Province. Composed only weeks before the campaigns that culminated in the Battle of Santa Clara and the collapse of the Batista regime, the manuscript illustrates Che's role as both military commander and political strategist. As an unpublished contemporary primary source written in Che Guevara's own hand, it stands as an exceptionally important witness to the leadership and unity that helped secure the Revolution's ultimate triumph.

CUBA NATIONAL ANTHEM MANUSCRIPT

Handwritten during the Cuban Revolutionary War and dated 28 August 1958, this wartime manuscript of the Himno del 26 de Julio appears to have been written by Melba Hernández, one of the principal figures of the July 26 Movement. The document is signed by Fidel Castro Ruz, then Comandante en Jefe del Ejército Rebelde, and by Agustín Díaz Cartaya, composer of the revolutionary anthem, who additionally signed and dated the manuscript. Preserving the original revolutionary wording of the hymn, including passages later altered or omitted from official versions, it provides a rare contemporary witness to the anthem as it circulated among the leadership of the movement during the final months of the struggle against the Batista regime. As a primary source associated with three of the Revolution's most significant participants, the manuscript represents an exceptional artifact of Cuba's revolutionary and cultural history.

RAUL CASTRO LETTER

CUBA NATIONAL ANTHEM MANUSCRIPT

FIDEL PROMOTION ORDER

Written in the Sierra Maestra on 4 February 1957, this original handwritten letter from Raúl Castro Ruz to Granma expeditionary René Rodríguez Cruz offers a rare firsthand glimpse into the earliest months of the Cuban Revolution. In the manuscript, Raúl recalls René's sacrifices during the revolutionary preparations in Mexico and praises his courage and steadfastness during the movement's most difficult moments. The letter further affirms the rebels' determination to achieve "definitive victory under the leadership of Fidel," providing an exceptionally early contemporary expression of confidence in Fidel Castro's leadership before the Revolution had secured international recognition. Composed during the same period René Rodríguez was carrying out Fidel's mission that would lead to the Herbert Matthews interviews, this unpublished primary-source document stands as an important witness to the relationships, convictions, and sacrifices that shaped the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

FIDEL PROMOTION ORDER

CUBA NATIONAL ANTHEM MANUSCRIPT

FIDEL PROMOTION ORDER

This exceptionally rare autograph military promotion order was handwritten and signed by Fidel Castro Ruz in the Sierra Maestra on 16 February 1957, promoting Sergeant Eustaquio González to the rank of Lieutenant under the authority of the Rebel Army command. Issued barely ten weeks after the Granma landing, the document dates from one of the most precarious and least documented phases of the Cuban Revolution, when Fidel's guerrilla force remained a small insurgent movement fighting for survival in the mountains of Oriente Province. Unlike later governmental documents and routine correspondence, this manuscript records the direct exercise of military authority and the formation of the Rebel Army's emerging officer corps. Extensive research has failed to identify another published example of this specific promotion order or a comparable February 1957 Fidel Castro military appointment, underscoring its extraordinary rarity and historical significance as a surviving instrument of revolution.
